Everybody else working but no job to keep me busy, I set out to explore Sydney some more. Today my trip took me to Newtown, a more alternative quarter in Sydneys South West, by some compared to Londons Camden Town. The only thing that makes Newtown more “alternative” in the eyes of the obviously more ordinary people are the many second hand shops and frequent urban arts on the walls. Besides this, it has not much more atmosphere than many other parts of the city. One eatery after the other (Australians appear to eat out much more than I am used to), mainly Asian, the cafes were not much more cosy than the ones in Surry Hills and the second hand shops did not offer anything interesting (and I have been to all of them!)
