new ways to eat vegemite

Ryan from work introduced me to a new of eating vegemite: with cream cheese on a slightly sweet arrowroot biscuit...great!

I miss my hare

The Ian Potter centre of contemporary art hosts an exhibition of last years best arts students. One work I particularaly liked is Ruth O'Learys "Look right through me".

another installation was this one here (sorry for the bad picture, but one of the guards was looking at me quite intimidatingly)

it reminded me of my Dürer hare ... hope he`s ok on my parents TV set...

the limits of my camera

after a week of hard work, the weekend was finally mine. On friday, I discovered the limits of my poor camera. Bought for the purpose of making pictures but not having to worry too muh about loosing or dropping it, I did not spend much money on it. Which kind of backfires now. Antoinette, a friend of mine and art student just bought a really good and fancy Canon, and let me play with it at the last opening of the gallery she is volunteering at. What can I say, it got me hooked up with photography. I guess that runs in the family, since Mum loves to take pictures, especially since she mastered her new digital camera.
Anyway, here is more proof (the pictures I took in the cemetary already indicated the shortcommings of my poor little Fuji)

this was taken last friday at Oshs place in Brunswick. I payed a visit to my future flatmates and as usual, they had a fire going on in the garden. Later, Zach tried to jump over it with his skateboard, but unfortunately, the video footage is too dark. It was good fun though.
Saturday I sent wandering through the city, eating handrolls and shopping for warmer clothes. as usual on a day off, the weather was so warm that it was actually too warm to buy warm clothes. So I bought a t-shirt with a pretty cool print (photo later) and a dark grey hoody. And, I passed by this shop where they have awesome but pretty expensive jewelry. Thanks to the good people of threethousand, I won a monkey ring! because I would like to wear it on my pointer finger, I need a bigger size and they promised to make one especially for me, but it has not been delivered yet. It looks like this though:

early morning weather

this was yesterday`s morning fog over the CBD...
In the evening, 7th Gallery opened a new show, where I met up with some friends. John from Surfcamp is in town and me and another German friend of his showed him around Fitzroy last night. And, long time no see, but Elvis made another appearance, this time on the back of a guys jumper

Expohire Staff Party aka Osh's Housewarming

Saturday was another night out in Brunswick. First, Francesco payed respect to his origins and made delicious pizza, a very sincere task which is why he would not let anyone touch the dough (and he was not willing to smile just for a foto)

Unfortunately, I did not take any photos of the pizza because Reki had brought her super camera, but let em tell you, it was delicious.
Later, I went over to the housewarming party of Osh, a guy from work. He and his friends just moved into this beautiful house on the far out of Brunswick. When he goes to South America in the end of June, I can take his room untill I leave in early August. Yay - flatmates!
But since all his flatmates are also working for Expohire, though for different department, it turned into a staff party. At least, a good chance to take pictures and show you my workmates:

Melbourne Cemetery

The weather is getting more and more autumnly (if that word exists). Perfect to pay a visit to Melbourne Cemetery in Carlton. On the way there I passed by this little fella

unfortunately, my the batteries of my camera gave up half way through, so I definitely gonna go again.

see, I need a better camera! (hint at a christmas present...:-))

fitzroy nightwalk

somewhen last week I had too much for dinner and decided to go on a little walk around fitzroy, as long as I am still living here. Most likely, I am gonna move to Brunswick in the end of June, a guy from work goes travelling and I can have his room, which is cheaper and comes with a bunch of nice flatmates from New Zealand. I get a bit lonely sometimes here, because Mark is hardly ever home...so, happy news.
Anyway, the moon that night was amazing, unfortunately, my camera was not able to capture all its beauty...(I am thinking about going more into photography...if I´ll ever have the money to buy a good camera)

lunatic

full moon was only a few days ago, yet last night felt left a more eerie impression. Jiyeon and me wanted to go to an information night on the City of Melbournes art grants, which was held in the Nicholson building in the city. Unfortunately, it was overcrowded so that we could not understand a word, but the building is quite unique: an old office building that now hosts a couple of small, creative enterprises, the walls covered with ceramic tiles and scarcely lit. We took to explore the building, but unfortunately our criminal energy was not enough to make us break open the lock that sealed the door to the rooftop.
to finish the evening off, we went to the Croft Institute, a bar styled like a lab with all utensils hidden away in a tiny alley off china town

a week gone by so fast

last week came and went so quickly, that I totally forgot to blog.
the week saw work, a night out in the laneways helping a friend from work paint graffities, many coffees with various people, a pizza session followed by drinking in the park,

a shopping trip to savers, some beers with Libby from the Jazzfestival who actually studied in Cologne for half a year, an awesome concert
, another opening night at the Gallery, work, an Italian pasta night with guitar lessons and a walk in the park on sunny sunday. and guess who I found on the way to the park:

Katharsis

Japanese Band Vampilia at the Tote Hotel

the MIJF - another volunteer experience

Last week was the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, where I volunteered. While I missed the opening concert on sunday for a gorgeous Martin Martini Gig, monday was my first day as volunteer. Unfortunately, autumn showed its ugly face with wind, rain and chilly 7 degrees and which kept the masses of Federation Square where I together with some other 10 volunteers was supposed to distribute programms. For three and a half hours in the garstly weather, I got to see the Actis Dato Quartett from Italy, which played a very entertaining show.
On tuesday I was on office duty and got meet all the wonderful organisers. 3 of the 5 girls working as organisers had studied in Italy and spoke quite good Italian. Since there was not much to do for us volunteers, we spent the afternoon drinking coffee and chatting. The evening saw the first concert of Charlie Haden, the artist in residence. After helping out at the ticketing desk, I got a very good seat in the newly built Recital Centre.
Wednesday had me going out to the airport to pick up an artist whose name I unfortunately forgot.
Thursday afternoon was spent with more chats and coffee, while friday I had to work for my payed job at the Royal Exhibition Building. Friday night was Jiyeons turn in the "dinner chain" and she and her housemates dished up a fantastic Korean dinner at their place near the Victoria Markets, which we enjoyed with the sufficient amounts of wine and sangria. On our walk back home late at night, we encountered real possums in Carlton Gardens, which proved to have a strong affection for leather shoes.

ANZAC Day Barbie

ANZAC Day on the 25th of April is a holiday dedicated to Australias and New Zealands losses in battle. No one really commemorates the fallen soldiers, but seizes the day to have barbies and drink heaps of beer. So did we and inaugurated the charcoal grill in our yard. smokey!
