the white of the wall (pink, feathered dogs and free drinks)

... was not to be seen on last weekends Melbourne Art Fair in the Royal Exhibition Building. We spent the whole Thursday hanging pictures on the walls of the stand of Brunswick Street Gallery, (im)proving our skills with hammer, level, screws and pins, untill it looked like this in the end:

At the opening party that evening, the crowds pushed me eventually away from the bar witht he free drinks and flushed us through the stands filled with art. There were Banksy prints, original Melburnian Streetart artists, indigineous art, international, australian, ridiculous, funny, boring and inspiring art. The most popular piece though was a pair of featherd dog figurines, that actually got sold

luckyly, Aaron who works with me here, who himslef is a streetartist. So I got to meet many people whose graffitti I already knew. pretty cool :-)

a short update

long time no see, I hope you all spent wonderful Easter holidays.
Myself went to a concert on Good Friday, surfing in Torquay at the coast on the weekend, and although waves and board were not optimal I had heaps of fun.
Monday saw me working again, Tuesday, one of the last gorgeous days of summer was spent in the park, chatting with a friend in another gallery and a delicious veggie curry for dinner, shared with almost all the people I know here. One of them brought his guitar and I got to practice some cords, which is why my finger hurts today.
The Melbourne Art Fair is on at the weekend, today I worked for my payed job there, tomorrow for the gallery. Tomorrow night is the big launch party, it's gonna be awesome! and the best, it is right around the corner from my place! yay yay yay!

British India@youthfest

jiyeong&me
British India, one of the many up and comming Melbourne bands actually made into the Age, Melbournes most respectable newspaper. So we braved the elements and ventured out to the Youthfest in Moonee Ponds, where they were playing a free gig. The rest of the festival proved to be rather boring, the bands playing earlier were rather loud than good. and even British India disappointed. depicting themselves full-bodied as better as the rest, they made a weak performance. Though being around since 2004 and having enjoyed heaps of support from critics as well as fans, they still sounded like a first year garage band (to borrow the words from here).
The kids at the Youthfest liked it. I merely ticked them off my list.

the "V" or a note on Australian festivals

the killers
thank god, the heavens did not leak a single drop on the party crowd at yesterdays V Festival. It was a very Australian festival experience: only for a day, everything was very well organised. The mobile toilets were a deluxe version of the expected Dixie Klo, had toilet paper throughout the day and actually flushed. The crowds in front of the various stages was very tame, moshing was strictly prohibited.
When the headliner, the Killers, played we made it to approx 6m from the stage and were still abel to stand on our feet, move and breathe freely. Weird. But comfortable.
